GREETING

KIP Patent Law Office is a full-service intellectual property law firm which was established in 2003. In spite of short history we are already an important player in pioneering and precedent-setting IP matters. We are well versed in the business and science of IP law inside and out.
Our scientific expertise extends into all areas of science and engineering. But we focus mainly on CHEMISTRY, especially on polymers, fibers, composites, catalysts, membranes, organic syntheses, petrochemicals and pharmaceutics.
Every patent attorney of our office has experience of research in the industry and holds advanced technical >degree. The representative attorney of our office received Ph.D. degree in the field of polymer material from Seoul National University in 1990, served as a research fellow in material science and engineering in the University of Michigan for 3 years and has experience of examiner of KIPO (Korean Intellectual Property Office) for many years.

We provide assistance in the technical area of law but this is just part of our job. We provide our clients the strategies on how to maximize the value of their patents, utility models, designs, trademarks and copyrights.
We structure business relationships and craft licenses and other agreements to cement them. We litigate when necessary and aren't afraid to try cases.

KIP's patent practice includes litigation representation, translation, drafting and prosecution of applications, and advice on infringement and validity issues.
Our patent experience is particularly deep in the high-technology area.
We deal with inventions in all fields of technological and scientific engineering. We have staff members with many years of practice having expertise in all areas of technology including electronics,electrical engineering, telecommunication engineering, semiconductor engineering, physics, computer science, mechanics, aeronautical engineering, material science, chemistry, chemical engineering, biotechnology, genetic engineering, molecular biology and pharmaceutics.

DESIGN

UTILITY MODELS/DESIGN

KIP's patent practice includes services involving Utility Models and Designs.
In Korea, utility model protection can be chosen in lieu of patent protection for practical devices, and dual applications are also possible.
We counsel clients in the selection of the most cost-effective form of protection for their inventive devices. We also assist clients in identifying protectable designs.

TRADEMARKS

TRADEMARKS, SERVICE MARKS AND COPYRIGHTS

We regularly advise in the selection of trademarks, service marks, and copyrights.
We obtain and analyze search reports and prepare and file trademark and service mark applications for registration.
We also provide advice on licensing of trademarks or service marks, monitoring of licensing arrangements, and the treatment of licenses and the assignment of marks in connection with the formation, operation, financing, and sale of a business. We have broad experience in the defense and prosecution of trademarks, service marks, copyright infringement actions and trademark counterfeiting cases.

In addition to litigating disputes in Korean courts, we represent clients in connection with opposition proceedings in the Korean Intellectual Property Office.
Opposition cases are the main avenue for blocking pirated trademarks from registration

We have significant experience in new economy intellectual property issues as they relate to business methods, electronic commerce, electronic cash, and domain names.

LITIGATION

We have extensive experience in infringement proceedings for all Intellectual property rights.
We provide representation before the District Courts, Appellate Courts, and the Korean Supreme Court, and also represent our clients in the Patent Court in cases of appeal from decisions and judgments of the Korean Industrial Property Office.
We have successfully represented clients in a number of cases.

CONTRACT LAW AND LICENSE AGREEMENTS

We have significant experience in commercial contracts and marketing.
We assist in negotiating and documenting domestic and international patent licensing agreements.

SEARCH AND WATCHING SERVICE

Among other activities, we provide also "search and watch" services to our clients to avoid superfluous development projects, and to make them aware of competitor's activities in Korea.
We also inspect files and registers with respect to the legal validity of Intellectual property rights.
